Mexico Mission

Every year, Christ In Action has the opportunity to partner with Harvest Evangelism of Opelika, AL, for a Christmas outreach to poor families and orphaned children in Reynosa, Mexico, working with local missionaries across the border from McAllen, TX. (view photos from past years)

The History
Pastor Rick Hagans and his wife Kim founded Harvest Evangelism in 1987, using a coffee shop (and soon-after one of the country's largest thrift stores) to fund their ministries, primarily His Place and Hosanna Home drug and alcohol rehabilitation shelters, modeled after David Wilkerson's Teen Challenge programs.

The Trip
For over a decade, each year around Christmastime, Christ In Action has partnered with Harvest Evangelism for their regular outreach trips to Mexico by providing a truck, trailer and volunteer driver(s) to take a 53' semi-trailer loaded with donated goods to the Harvest Thrift Super Center in AL. Goods that cannot be distributed in Mexico (appliances, furniture, etc) are off-loaded to the Thrift Center, and the goods for distribution (diapers, toys, etc) that they have been collecting for the past year are loaded into the truck. The Christ In Action truck and drivers continue down, often stopping at other partner ministries, such as Soles4Souls and FriendShips to pickup other donated goods (such as new shoes and blankets).

The Outreach
A team of 20-40 students, adults, families and recovering addicts all converge on Reynosa, Mexico for 5-7 days where, in the name of Jesus:
• At least 1-2 new homes are rebuilt for families along the canal in a destitute village
• Construction and/or painting projects are completed at an orphanage in downtown Reynosa
• Orphaned children are held, loved on and ministered to
• All the donated goods are distributed to the needy families
• One or more FREE medical clinics are held where poor families can come and get the treatment and medications needed for themselves and their children
• A fried turkey Christmas dinner is served to hundreds along the canal

The Opportunity
Christ In Action provides the truck and drivers, Harvest Evangelism coordinates the outreach team, we have local churches in partner with us by hosting  drop-off locations.  If you want a way to make a difference, but don't have any cash this is a great way to give to others this Christmas season.
