Hurricane Irene - Vivian's Story
73-year-old Vivian Berry, a native of Dare County, Manteo, NC, shares her story of hope after losing her husband one-and-a-half years ago and being overwhelmed with devastation from Hurricane Irene. Christ In Action deployed to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, clearing yards of trees and debris, and sharing hope in hard times.

Christ In Action deployed to North Carolina, as the eye of Hurricane Irene passed through the Outer Banks, making landfall on August 27, 2011. About 40 people died and 9 million were left without power due to Irene's fierce winds and rains.

Christ In Action Continues Relief Efforts in NC
September 5, 2011 - 12:20 PM EST - After visiting Hatteras Island, Christ In Action has made the decision to remain in the Kitty Hawk area. The needs on Hatteras Island are great, and while assessing, we were able to meet with relief teams already on the ground.

Hatteras Island Assessment Continues
September 3, 2011 - 6:30AM EST - Denny & Chris will be boarding a ferry this morning, utilizing the only way to get vehicles to Hatteras Island, off the coast of North Carolina. Only two trips are made to and from the island each day. We hope to continue our assessment of Hatteras Island and connect with local pastors remaining.

Hurricane Irene - Volunteers Needed!
Denny and Bethany were able to assess Hatteras Island from the air with Friendships. Evidence of flooding was visible. At this time only emergency personnel and those with special needs are being transported by ferry since the only road access to the island has been breached in 7 locations.

Hurricane Irene Update
August 31, 2011 - 10:30 PM EST - While Hurricane Irene didn't live up to the media hype, Irene was still a Category 1 Hurricane, packing winds of 90 to 100 mph, when it made landfall in North Carolina. Hurricane Irene killed at least 18 people as it moved from the Caribbean to New England, caused an estimated $3 billion in damage, and cut electric power to more than 6 million homes and businesses across the the eastern U.S.

Hurricane Irene Eye Passes Over Dare County EOC
August 27, 2011 - 6:05 PM EST - 45 minutes ago the eye of the storm passed over the Dare County Emergency Operations Center (Nags Head, NC), and they will weather the second half of the storm through Saturday night. We have been in touch with the emergency officials and are thankful for the favor of working directly with the Dare County EOC.
